From literacy in music to literacy in countless languages, the division of Humanities, Arts, and Cultural Studies (HArCS) explores a range of aesthetic and cultural expression. Faculty and students in departments ranging from Design, to Music, to Native American Studies create new avenues of discovery while at the same time getting a solid grounding in core literacies essential to success in the 21st century. The curricula focus on enabling students to master communication skills, language fluency, critical thinking and cultural competency.

Arts at UC Davis

Music Events

The music department is world-renowned for its faculty, including D. Kern Holoman, conductor for the UC Davis Symphony Orchestra. The department features free concerts throughout the year as well as special performances for ticket holders.
