A Strong Foundation in the Liberal Arts Who Says You Can't Have It All?

Most work opportunities in the 21st century favor people who have a strong foundation in the liberal arts — the ability to think critically, to communicate effectively, to work on teams collaboratively, to interpret and apply data. The good news is you have many choices for forging an educational experience that will prepare you to enter the world of work and succeed for the long term, no matter what new kinds of jobs may emerge in the future.

One of the most exciting ways you can build foundational skills, while also honing in on some particular areas of interest or strength, is to consider declaring a double major or choosing a minor that complements your major.

At the UC Davis College of Letters and Science, students have a wide variety of majors and minors from which to choose. And, it is relatively easy to do with a little planning and preparation.

Think About the Possibilities

• Maybe you’d like to be a doctor in an underserved community: Why not major in African American/African Studies and Biology?

• Maybe you are interested in developing the next generation of wearable technology: Why not major in Design and Engineering?

• Maybe you want to help reverse climate change, particularly for the most vulnerable: Why not major in Native American Studies and Environmental Science?

• Maybe you love performing in front of others and solving difficult equations? Why not major in Theatre and Mathematics?

Click on the slideshow to the right to explore more possibilities. What other combinations might you think of? Send us a note at lettersandscience@ucdavis.edu. If you are already a double major or if you are minoring in a College of Letters and Science major, let us know that, too!
