Janet Gutierrez has been an academic advisor for the College of Letters and Science since 2013.

Janet was formerly an advisor for Sociology and Anthropology for five years, and prior to that an advisor in Graduate Studies for four years. Janet has much experience working closely with underrepresented minority and first-generation students. She has a bachelor's degree in Sociology and Spanish from UC Davis.

Her passion for advising started when, in her high school years, she was part of a UC Davis outreach program – Early Academic Outreach Program (EAOP). As a student at UC Davis, she served as a Peer Academic Advisor for EAOP doing presentations and advising high school students and their families. Her approach to advising is holistic and focuses on students’ development and guiding them through college from an experiential perspective.

Outside of the office, Janet is a soccer mom who enjoys being active, reading, dancing, and spending time with her family.
