Recent Graduate Wins O. Henry Award Jeffrey Day May 18, 2018

UC Davis College of Letters and Science alumnus Jamil Jan Kochai (M.A., English, ’17) is winner of an O. Henry Award for his short story “Nights in Logar.” This story and those by 19 other writers will be published in an anthology this fall.

“To be included amongst such a long history of incredible stories, it's unreal,” Kochai said.  

1987 - Eve Aschheim

Eve Aschheim (MFA, Studio Art, ’87) was recently inducted into the National Academy of Design. Aschheim has taught at  Princeton University since 1991 and served as art program director from 2004 to 2007. Aschheim’s work is shown internationally and been included in the textbooks Drawing, Structure and Vision and Drawing, A Contemporary Approach. She has won awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Joan Mitchell Foundation, and the American Academy of Arts and Letters.

Creative Writing Student Wins PEN Award

UC Davis Creative Writing graduate student Cristina Fries is one of the 12 winners of the PEN/Robert J. Dau Short Story Prize for Emerging Writers. It is given by PEN American, an organization that offers a wide range of support to writers.

English Grad is Pen America Award Winner

Angela Morales (English, ’91) has won a Pen America Literary Award for her book of essays The Girls in My Town. The autobiographical essays are about growing up in Los Angeles.
