Stephen Greenblatt, a Pulitzer Prize-winning author and Harvard University humanities professor, will give an online lecture Tuesday, May 4, on “Shakespeare’s Second Chance.” This year’s Eugene Lunn Memorial Lecture, sponsored by the UC Davis Department of History, will begin at 4 p.m. PDT, with a Q&A session to follow.
Gina Bloom, UC Davis English professor, will give the 2019 Shakespeare Birthday Lecture at the Folger Shakespeare Library. Her talk, “Rough Magic: Performing Shakespeare With Gaming Technology,” will take place April 22 at the Folger Theatre in Washington, D.C. The birthday lecture has been held nearly every year since 1932.
A dozen UC Davis English majors recently played a video game with area elementary, middle and high school students. While the students had fun, the goal was to see how “Play the Knave” might improve their reading and writing skills and make the works of William Shakespeare more accessible.
